IISE – Training SL interpreters: International Settings The
main objective of IISE is to develop sign language interpreter education
for interpreting in international settings and raise awareness of the
good professional practices that facilitate this participation. The Deaf
participate more and more in different international events, where
interpretation is often provided in several different languages.
Interpreters of spoken languages have a longstanding experience of
cooperation in such settings. Sign language interpreters, however, are
more used to work independently and solely with the client, although
collaboration with colleagues would be equally beneficial for SL
interpreters.
The main outputs of IISE are: 1. Education
package for “Sign Language Interpreting in International Settings” 2.
DVD-ROM compiling the pedagogical plans and teaching materials 3. Two
test courses: a videoconference seminar for beginners and a 4-day course
for participants with some experience of interpreting in international
settings 4. Web-based “Quick Guide to Working with International
Interpreter Teams”.
